Tokyo Game Show 2008 – Phoenix Wright Action Figures.

Gyakuten Saiban action figures by Volks on display at Tokyo Game Show last weekend: Phoenix, Edgeworth, Ema (GS4), and Trucy. They’re out in 2009 and are “no scale” (LOL). More photos under the cut.

Two nitpicks: the weird seamline in Phoenix’s hair, and the lack of waist articulation. And hopefully he’ll have alternate heads because I don’t want a permanent “**** GOES WHERE?!” expression. Still, the paint job and sculpt is looking pretty solid.

Phoenix Wright = 成歩堂 龍一 (Naruhodou Ryuuichi)

(An interesting tidbit: in Japanese GS fandom, the English localization is considered an “alternate universe”, where Phoenix Wright (US) has blue eyes, and Naruhodou Ryuuichi (JP) has gray eyes. This is because the original GS art had him with gray eyes, but when they rereleased it for the DS + brought it overseas, they retconned him with blue eyes. So they associate the blue eyes with the Western Phoenix Wright.)

YES YOUR MAJESTY!! ALL HAIL GERMANNIA!!! (Well, actually it would be Von Karma = Charles, Edgeworth = Lelouch. Franziska as Nunnally would be the most hilarious thing ever. P.S. Gregory is Marianne. OH SHI-)

Also, why are his pants’ joints red when Phoenix’s are black? Kind of an odd inconsistency.

Also, I have to put in this shot of the Gyakuten Kenji (a.k.a. MILES EDGEWORTH: PRO PROSECUTOR) demo station at Capcom’s booth during TGS, simply because of how FABULOUS it is:

The cheek bulge is pretty cute. I wish they made the lenses transparent, would have been fantastic. Still, it’s interesting they chose to make GS4 Ema, since her GS1 design is so much cuter. I guess they needed another GS4 heroine to balance everything out?

. . . although the face and the joints are kind of off-putting. x_x.

Trucy Wright = 成歩堂 みぬき (Naruhodou Minuki)

Volks is currently my hero since not only did they recently make that jawesome Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann garage kit, but they’ve come out with these awesome articulated figures for one of my absolute favorite video game series EVER. Before I used to diss on them because they make those creepy Asian ball-jointed dolls, and they’ve definitely applied their SD ball jointed touch to these GS figures. However, for some reason they don’t look creepy or fall into an uncanny valley that puts me off most “realistic” dolls. And their quality has always been top notch. Thumbs up, Volks. Hopefully the prices for these are NOT the $1000 range of their regular ball-jointed offerings, though.
