Exceptional male figures are hard to come by, but the market offering is slowly growing, as evidenced by these Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler) figures from Square-Enix in their “Static Arts” line. Then again, Square-Enix has always been good about releasing both male and female figures (re: Final Fantasy and Full Metal Alchemist lines have had pretty equal gender ratios) so let’s hope other companies follow suit.
They’re Animate exclusives so unless you have someone in Japan order for you your best bet is eBay.

Love the face and the fiddly details. But especially the face. Such a sultry expression. ♥_♥
Ciel’s outfit is amazing. I love the trailing bustle, the pimp cane, and the foppish hat. Fabulous. P.S. It’s a boy.
I read the first volume of Kuroshitsuji and although the art and concept is great, it just didn’t “WOW!” me. It’s one of those “style over substance” series like D.Gray-man, Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, and Soul Eater, where the hip art design tries to overcompensate for a generic lackluster plot. However, you CAN do it right: Gurren Lagann is definately a series where the stylish art is partnered with an epic storyline. We’ll see how the Kuroshitsuji anime does this season, but already I’m raising eyebrows at Ono Daisuke (Itsuki, Hosaka) + Sakamoto Maaya (Hitomi, OHS Haruhi) as Sebastian + Ciel. Certainly will be interesting.

I love the high-quality Sebastian and Ciel figures.Do want.
Gurren Lagann? Please,if you’re going to use a good example then do so.
Gurren Lagann’s art is very poor and so is its plot and mecha designs. A good and epic anime would be Code Geass.
I also disagree with Kuroshitsuji and definitely D.Gray-Man having a generic lackluster plot.
D.Gray-Man is definitely one of the best shounens out there.
@ Neuro: Admittedly the Kuroshitsuji anime is well paced and growing on me. And opinions are subjective and change frequently. But let’s put it this way: I couldn’t get past episode 4 of D.Gray, but I marathoned GL over two days without sleeping. Even if the mecha do look admittedly stupid, it has its own style and the whole series is just so inspiring and manly. Yeah, gotta defend my favorites. ^^
(Although I do agree that Code Geass is quite entertaining and I like it a lot. The plot could use work on pacing issues and they should stop adding so many useless characters, but it was very fun to watch nevertheless.)
I actually like the laid-back plot, it makes it more relaxed to watch.
I curse the lack of availability and amount of male figures, I would so pre-order this in my usual stores if they were available like any other PVC.
Ditto. I marathoned Gurren Lagann and I have to admit, in my standard, it’s one of the best. And I’m NOT even a mecha fan.
However, Kuroshitsuji is also intruiging and special in it’s own way. Yes, the art is really fabulous. But there’s more to it. I am watching the anime, too, but I’m definitely more of a follower of the manga. You should try reading a few more chapters of the manga. Maybe you’d be able to find “something”. Of course, some people prefer animations than reading materials, though.
I do not have the right to compare Kuroshitsuji to D.Gray-man and Tsubasa. I only watched a few episode of both and although the animations were really nice, like you, they did not have that “wow” factor.
I like Code Geass, too. But they don’t have a character to match “Sebastian”. *creepy girly laugh* What I don’t like about CG was the pacing. The plot twists were cool, but there was just too much of them one would think that the author was just trying to “save” some ass. Although the author did it quite well, too.
Anyway, my point was: yeah, I agree with your opinion about Gurren Lagann AND Kuroshitsuji is probably better than D.Gray-man and Tsubasa.
NEED.CIEL.FIGURE.NAO.
These…are fabulous. I’ve never been interested in figures before but now I’m taking a different perspective.
They’re really works of art, in my opinion. Just a lot nerdier lol.
D.Gray Man is not a great shounen. It’s just yet another neo-shonen plot.
Just had to chime in here, couldn’t agree more with D.Gray Man being midiocre, it is, in fact, now one of the lamest anime’s I’ve ever watched. Also one of the only anime’s I couldn’t finish, I thought I had all the eps from my friend…over 100, then found out it wasn’t finished. Won’t ever waste my time with that again. Gurren Laggan on the other hand is one of the greatest anime’s in the 2000′s, up there with Code Geass and Deathnote (before episode 27 where they decided the story no longer mattered). Back On Topic, I loved Kuroshitsuji, watched it all in two nights, I do enjoy darker anime’s and this one fit the bill starting with episode 1. The art is amazing and I liked the story all the way through, the ending was much better than I had anticipated. These figures are probably going to be a must buy for me.
